Mr Park said: ‘Gromit has programmed a proper repertoire for the night. It will feature their theme tune, of course, but pieces by Mozart, Debussy and Shostakovich, before Wallace’s own work [composed by Park’s long-time musical collaborator Julian Nott]. ‘ The music will be performed by the Aurora Orchestra, while the Wallace and Gromit “co-ordinate” from backstage.
Their antics will be broadcast to the audience on a giant screen and a new animated scenes will also be filmed to be shown alongside the music.
Their film, A Matter Of Loaf And Death, will also be shown and will be accompanied by a live orchestral soundtrack.
Mr Wright said: ‘This is a way of introducing orchestral music to families of all ages and Wallace and Gromit will help us do that.’ The BBC has previously had huge success with their ‘family’ proms, which in recent years have been inspired by shows such as Doctor Who or Horrible Histories.
This year’s concerts, which begin on Friday July 13, also include performances inspired by the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games.
There will also be a celebration of the 70th birthday of Desert Island Discs with presenter Kirsty Young introducing performances of some of the most popular choices from the show including Bach, Beethoven and a Beatles medley.
