Penelope Cruz as you've never seen her before! Star transforms into Super Mario for new Nintendo advert

She has played a whole host of glamorous characters but Penelope Cruz’s latest role is perhaps her most bizarre yet.
The actress stars in a new advert for Nintendo which sees her transform into Super Mario.
The 38-year-old dresses as the Italian plumber complete with a moustache as part of the advert in which her sister Mónica also appears.

New look: Penelope Cruz is transformed into Super Mario for a new Nintendo advert

The video sees Penelope playing a Mario Bros game on her Nintendo 3DS before she is joined by her younger sister, who starts playing herself and quickly beats her famous sibling.
After losing the bet with Mónica, Penelope is forced to dress as Mario and head to a grocery store.
She sports the gaming icon’s staple wardrobe of blue dungarees and a red top along with matching cap with the letter ‘M’ emblazoned on it.

Penelope is humorously forced to try her hand at an Italian accent and asks ‘Can I have a mushroom?’ referencing a fellow Super Mario character.
Meanwhile model Mónica can be seen giggling in the background.
The 35-year-old stars in a new campaign for Agent Provocateur which sees her modelling some very racy lingerie inspired by Fifty Shades of Grey.

Meanwhile Penelope has revealed she still finds English-language roles difficult in a new interview.
Posing for an arty photoshoot in W magazine, she told the publication: 'There is a part of your brain that has to stop when you’re acting. You have to be in the moment and dare to fly. Words can’t be on your mind.
'And yet, when you are working in a foreign language, you have to be thinking about the words every single second. It’s difficult, but I’m not complaining. It’s just the way it is.'
